As a young nation, south Sudan has found a world of large entertainment industries from the Kenyan film industry Riverhood , the Nigerian Nollywood dominating the east African and the rest of the continent with movies being released yearly. with such opportunities abundantly available as a source material for the young nation, will the south Sudanese take the initiative to create their own entertainment industry? call it Juba hood if you will. Well believe it or not, entry to the entertainment industry is commencing with them holding events to promote their artist from zero to hero all over the globe.
The world view of South Sudan has largely been about the ongoing conflict and the raging collapse in the economy; what the world hasn’t noticed however is the strong unity and respect south Sudanese youth are showing to one another through entertainment. on 5th December South Theatre Academy, a community based origination founded and manage by young south Sudanese held an event for the purpose of promoting the south Sudanese entertainment industry.
The event turns up was so large such that some people didn’t managed to get seats. this alone shows the existence of an unrecognized peace in South Sudan. After all, Youth are the future! Well, that just proves one point; but, does it proves the existing of an entertainment industry in the young nation? Looking back, the music industry bloomed way before the new born nation gain its independence. In the year 2005, duop pur dup a young musician led the music industry starting from Ethiopia his music travel and reach all south Sudanese over the globe.
The transition since then is tremendous with artist releasing not only entertaining tracks but more meaningful songs that inspire and change the hearts of south Sudanese irrespective of tribe. Domination, an artist being promoted by south theatre recently released one of his motivational rapping music videos and for his talent was awarded the artist of the year.
The entertainment industry in South Sudan started its presence; however, in a smaller scale. the following are the existing film production group that re trying to bring quality movies to the industry.
